Brut, Louis Roederer, "Cristal", 2007June 7th, 1867, Paris - It was on this historic night at Café Anglais where the famous Dîner de Trois Empereurs or "Three Emperors Dinner" took place--an event many consider the most decadent gastronomic affair ever to occur involving 16 courses paired with the world's greatest fine wines. Amongst 1847 Châteaux Marguax, 1848 Châteaux Lafite, and Madeira from the 1700s it was the inaugural debut of Louis Roederer's masterpiece: "Cristal" that stole the show. In keeping with tradition, "Cristal" Champagne is released only in the most special years and continues to shine above many of the tête de cuvées to this day. A precise blend favoring Pinot Noir along with Chardonnay grapes coming from organically farmed vineyards, "Cristal" should never be taken lightly and is best enjoyed over life's most treasured occasions. Comprised of only organically farmed Insolia grapes from Alcamo's estate vineyards this elegant bottling displays a bouquet of apricot, pear, and citrus fruit with hints of beeswax and white flowers. Since the early 1900's vines have overlooked the Santa Clara Valley thanks to two American viticultural pioneers, Paul Masson and Peter Martin Ray. They are accredited with planting some of the first Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vine cuttings from Burgundy in California. Today California's newest trailblazers have set their eyes on expanding one of its most promising regions, the Edna Valley. In the bucolic Edna Valley lies the Wolff Vineyard planted to Chardonnay vines dating back to 1976. These old vines result in an expression that exudes lemon blossom, lime balm, and honeysuckle with a tightly woven palate of pear flesh spiked by grapefruit zest and tangerine peel to finish. G.B. Burlotto, "Aves", 2022G.B. Burlotto, a renowned winemaker from 1850 to 1927, achieved remarkable success comparable to that of the great Biondi-Sandi Estate in a world dominated by French wines. His pioneering approach of selling Barolo in bottles, ahead of Giacomo Conterno's Barolo "Monfortino", showcased his innovative spirit. Being the official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, he not only gained personal fame but also elevated Verduno's status, placing it on par with La Morra. However, G.B.'s passing in 1927 marked a decline for Burlotto in Verduno. Fortunately, thanks to the exceptional winemaking skills of G.B.'s great-great-grandson, Fabio Alessandria, Burlotto is experiencing a resurgence and reclaiming its position as one of Piedmont's most sought-after small producers. Nervi-Conterno, 2015Winemaking in Gattinara dates back to Roman times and its wines have been sought after since the 1700's, well before the wines of Barolo and Barbaresco. Founded in 1906, Nervi is the oldest cantina in Gattinara. It has holdings in the appellation's two greatest crus - Molsino and Valferana - as well as the top sites of Garavoglie and Cassace. The key to Gattinar's greatness is its terroir. A rare vein of volcanic gravel, on steep, high-elevation slopes. In 2010 the Barolo region was officially demarcated and recognized for its 181 "Menzioni" (think "Premier Cru" and "Grand Cru" classifications in France). These designations celebrate the soulfully expressive characteristics of each site's diverse soils, varying altitudes, and unique grape growing typicity. Outside of the Cote de Nuits in Burgundy, there is perhaps no other region that is studied and dissected in greater detail than the zone of Barolo. We are excited to highlight these "terroir-driven" wines from some of the greatest producers and vintages.

Montefico, La Ca' Növa, "Bric Mentina", 2018As you approach the village of Barbaresco, you'll find the Rocca family's 18th-century "La Ca' Növa" estate perched atop the renowned Montestefano vineyard—a place untouched by time with untold beauty. In recent years their Barbarescos have reached new heights surpassing some of the most esteemed estates in the eyes of many. Their Montefico bottling is sourced from a special parcel called Vigna Bric Mentina, which lies at the best part: the top of the sloping vineyard, facing south where the grapes receive the most sunlight. Their Montefico expresses rose petals, lavender, spice, crunchy dark berries, and a minty essence, a hallmark of the cru.

Cocito's Barbaresco Riserva is sourced exclusively from the Baluchin vineyard, which is located in the "Cru" of Bric Micca and derives its name from the local dialect meaning "star". This elevated site has a rich history of stargazing and provides the perfect terroir for producing worldclass Nebbiolo. Cocito vinifies only one red wine, the Barbaresco Riserva, in very limited quantities. Angelo Gaja is the man credited for bringing the small commune of Barbaresco out of obscurity. His influence has changed the way the world views Italian wine to this day. Today, their daughers - Alessia, Albeira, and Allegra - salvaged a few rows of surviving vines and successfully revived this storied wine. The name Koosah, derived from the dialect of the Coastal Salish people, evokes a sense of awe with its poetic translation, "beautiful ceiling in the sky," a fitting portrayal of its perch atop the crest of Eola-Amity Hills. To the direct west of the Koosah vineyard lies a majestic gap in the formidable Coastal Range mountains. It is through this opening (aka "Van Duzer Corridor") that Koosah lies completely exposed to cooler marine temperatures and the constant threat of tempestuous storm systems that could devastate the vineyard at any time. One might ponder the audacity of sourcing fruit from such an extreme and dramatic setting, but in the case of Koosah, fortune favors the bold.. Here, the Pinot Noir vines thrive, un-grafted and planted on their original rootstock, basking in warm days and cool nights but also benefitting from the high elevation where intensified UV rays gift the vineyard with one of the most prolonged and perfectly balanced growing seasons in the Willamette Valley. Limited and exceptionally special, the '21 Koosah tantalizes the senses with notes of Alpine spices, macerated dark cherries, and a touch of reduced pomegranate leaving a lasting impression of indulgence and sophistication. James Rahn, Meunier, "Rainsong", Willamette Valley, 2018After a counseling session James Rahn, then a sommelier in Chicago, was struck with an idea: "Skip school, get a cellar job, go into debt buying fruit and barrels and whatnot, and boom, you're a winemaker." James packed up to Oregon to work under Luisa Ponzi of the famed Ponzi Vineyards in 2012. A year later, James founded his synonymous winery and began producing wines meant for the dinner table. His most graceful and prettiest of wines can be found here, the Rainsong Vineyard, Pinot Meunier. James is a big fan of Champagne and believes Pinot Meunier to be its most exciting, with more sophistication, energy, and lithe in comparisson Pinot Noir. Brut, Pierre Péters, "Cuvée de Réserve", NVCamille Péters, around 1919, was one of the first growers of the Champagne region to decide to bottle wine under his own name. In 1932, at the ripe old age of 12, Pierre Péters, the eldest son of Camille, began to attend his first exhibitions alone and develop sales for his father's brand, and never looked back. He took over operations in 1944, and released his first vintage in 1946 under the "Pierre Péters" brand. The estate, now run by Rodolphe Péters, owns just over 19 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards , all of which are primarily located in the Côte des Blancs, where the soils are chalky and Chardonnay is king. Their flagship Champagne, the "Cuvée de Réserve", is a Blanc de Blancs style made from 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay grapes.441
